Unfortunately we’re still hearing from residents in our community that have received “The Grandparent Scam” calls.
Â
The “Grandparent Scam” is when a scammer calls pretending to be a grandchild or calling on behalf of a grandchild that is in trouble, pressuring seniors to send money to help them.
Â
These calls often can consist of:
âť—Fake emergencies – Claiming they’ve been arrested, in a car crash, or in hospital.
âť—Urgent requests – Need money sent to them, or in cash, requesting it be left out at the victim’s residence to be picked up.
Â
High pressure tactics such as these can often mean it’s a scam. Please speak with family members and elderly loved ones that can be targeted to ensure they are aware of these scams, and advise them if they receive these calls to speak with a trusted family member and not send or agree to have someone pick up cash.
