Position Objectives:

The Parks, Culture, & Recreation Facility Operator is under the supervision of the Facility Lead. The Parks, Culture, & Recreation Facility Operator is responsible for the overall maintenance and operational practices of the Recreation Facility and Arena to ensure the facility is maintained in a safe, clean and attractive condition. The Parks, Culture & Recreation Facility Operator will provide support and service to the public and user groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Attend Parks & Recreation Department meetings as required.
● Participate in OHS Committee meetings.
● Work closely with the Parks & Recreation Team to ensure excellent facility operations.


Winter Operations
● Move nets when flooding ice after warm ups and between periods
● Performing minor cleaning.
● Provides general property maintenance of the Parks/Recreation facilities.
● Records maintenance activities and safety inspections in accordance with all facility policies and procedures.
● Maintains security and provides assistance that may be necessary during an event in all Parks & Recreation Facilities.
● Provides set-up and tear down activities for events at all Parks & Recreation Facilities.
● Shovel sidewalks, walkways, emergency exits and apply salt and/or sand as required to ensure public safety at all required Facilities.
● Small property maintenance projects will be assigned as required.
● Provides positive customer service to the public as needed with the ability to enforce the policies of all Parks & Recreation facilities when required.
● Liaises with the public and user groups when assigned.
● Positive motivation to all fellow employees.

Spring/Summer Operations
● Greenspace maintenance – specific to parks, pathways and open spaces used for recreation purposes including and not limited to maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of park grounds/flower beds and facility structures, water maintenance scheduling of flowers, plants, trees and landscaping for all Town green initiatives.
● Prepare and maintain all ball diamonds and sports fields as required by the user groups.
● Carry out daily checks, preventative maintenance checks, maintains and performs minor repairs on facility structures.
● Training of recreation staff as required including and not limited to mobile equipment training, ball diamond maintenance, caretaking duties and facility open and closing responsibilities.
● Operates and performs minor maintenance on handheld power and gardening tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Energetic, enthusiastic, and highly professional with superior judgment.
● Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
● Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and direction, as well as part of a team environment.
● Demonstrate cooperative attitude with management, staff, partners, and customers.
● Knowledge and understanding of Workers’ Compensation practices/protocols, Workers’ Compensation Act and OH&S Regulations and other.
● Be knowledgeable of Safety Policies and Procedures.
● Operate and maintain small hand tools, lawn and garden equipment and be aware of safety policies and procedures at all times.
● Aesthetic eye.
● S.P.R.A. Arena I & II.
● Criminal Record Check.
● Bondable.

 

Working Conditions:
● Hours of Work will be a modified work arrangement to be determined.
● This position will require evening and weekend scheduling.
● The department will look to accommodate work-life balance to include a rotating work schedule that may include day shifts and every second weekend off.
● Working conditions contain moderate risks which require planned safety precautions for limited periods.
● May be subjected to inclement weather when working outdoors.
● Occasional exposure to unpleasant conditions such as dirt, dust, noise, fumes, noxious odors, heat, and/or cold.
● Limited exposure to infectious diseases and the requirement to use personal protective equipment and hygiene practices.

 

Desirable Training and Experience:

Education and Experience:
● Grade 12 or equivalent years of experience.
● WHMIS.
● First Aid/CPR.
● S.P.R.A. Ball Diamond & Sports field Maintenance Course.
● Valid class 5 driver’s license.
● Driver’s Abstract required.
