Pilot Butte Book Club
The Pilot Butte Book Club meets once a month on a Tuesday night at the Library at 7 pm. The Southeast Regional Library sends ten (10) copies of a book pre-chosen by the club, everyone reads it and comes back together for discussion. The club provides an opportunity for the members to read books to which they might not otherwise have been exposed. There have been some terrific choices – All the Light We Cannot See; Behind the Beautiful Forever’s; the 100 foot Journey; A Thousand Splendid Suns; An Astronaut’s Guide to the Universe – some less terrific choices and books where the members have enjoyed a lively debate with some liking the selection and others finding it not to their taste. There have books that make you yawn, books that irritate you, books that tickle your funny bone, books that make you think, and books that tear your heart out. We have been armchair travelers to China, India, Iran, France, and America. We’ve time-travelled to Saskatchewan in the 1920s, to Europe during the World Wars, and been on the road in America in the 50s and after a nuclear devastation.
In addition to discussions of the selected books, the members enjoy having other members recommend books or authors they have read which are not on the list.
If you love to read like we love to read this club is a great forum for discovering new treasures and sharing old ones. We would be pleased to have you join us. Please contact Librarian Connie LaRonge-Mohr for information on how to open up your world.
The Darn Yarn Club
Do you knit, crochet, stitch, etc.? We have drop-in sessions in the Library the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm. Share ideas, enjoy stitching and chatting.
