Temporary Pilot Butte Dog Park

*The Temporary Dog Park closed for the season as of March 3, 2025*

Dog parks provide residents the opportunity for their dogs to exercise, play and socialize off-leash within a controlled environment. A Temporary Dog Park has been created on Baseball Diamond 4 during the winter months, from December 2024 – March 3, 2025! Residents’ cooperation is crucial to the continuation of the temporary dog park and work towards the potential of a permanent dog park. Garbage receptacles and bags have been provided for proper disposal of waste. Please review the Dog Park Rules below, which is also displayed at the entrance gate of the temporary dog park.

**Abuse of the dog park may result in the Temporary Dog Park being revoked**

Location

The Temporary Dog Park is located on Diamond 4 of the Baseball Diamonds, near the outdoor rink.

Pilot Butte Dog Park Advisory Committee (PBDPAC)

The Pilot Butte Dog Park Advisory Committee (PBDPAC) was established in in February 2024 to make recommendations to Town Council concerning park site selection; site work required; capital budget and operational budget requirements and the policies and procedures of the off leash dog park.

The role of this Committee is to investigate, consider and provide recommendations to Council regarding various aspects of a new dog park in Pilot Butte.

What is a Dog Off-Leash Park?

It will be a fenced area where residents have the opportunity to exercise dogs off-leash within a controlled environment without being in contravention of municipal bylaws.

What are the benefits of Dog Off-Leash Park?

  • Provide a place for dogs to expel energy safely, reducing barking and other behavior problems.
  • Provide seniors and disabled dog owners an accessible place to exercise their companions.
  • Promote public health and safety by creating a dedicated place where dogs can run free.
  • Help build the positive aspects of our dog-friendly culture while reducing the roaming and dog waste that sometimes comes with it.
  • Build community by providing an opportunity to socialize with other dog owners.

Why are we looking for a committee for the project in Pilot Butte?

The success of dog parks in other towns has been directly influenced by the supportive communities they are located in.  The building of a dog park in town is a labour of love by those involved.
