School bus safety reminder
🚨 School Bus Safety Reminder – Let’s Keep Our Children Safe 🚨
The Town has received concerns regarding vehicles passing a stopped school bus while its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.
This is a reminder to all drivers:
⚠️ When approaching a school bus, if you see amber flashing lights, slow down and proceed with caution.
🛑 When a school bus has its stop arm extended and red lights flashing, you MUST stop. This applies to traffic approaching from both directions, meeting or passing.
⛔ You must stop no closer than 5 m (15 ft.) from the front or back of the bus.
Passing a stopped school bus in this situation is a serious offence and carries a minimum fine of $360 under Saskatchewan traffic laws.
More importantly, it puts children at serious risk. Students may be crossing the road and are often difficult to see.
Let’s all do our part to protect the safety of our community’s children. Please slow down, stay alert, and always stop for school buses.
