Pedestrian safety tips

We have some lovely fall weather to look forward to for the next while!

With the days getting shorter and evenings getting darker earlier, it's important for pedestrians to take extra precautions when heading out for a walk and for drivers to stay alert and watch for pedestrians, especially as many of our roads are shared by both vehicles and pedestrians.

Whether you're out enjoying the fresh fall air or taking your four-legged friend for an evening stroll, here are a few simple tips to help keep everyone safe and visible.

🚶 Use sidewalks: Walk on sidewalks whenever available. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road, facing oncoming traffic.

🚸 Cross safely: Use designated crosswalks and activate pedestrian crossing lights where available. Always check for approaching vehicles before crossing.

💡 Stay in well-lit areas: Choose routes with street lighting to improve visibility for both pedestrians and drivers.

✨ Be seen: Wear bright or reflective clothing and accessories to help drivers spot you in the dark. Don't forget your four-legged walking companions! Reflective collars, leashes, and harnesses help keep pets visible too.

🚗 Drivers: Stay alert and watch for pedestrians, especially during the early morning and evening hours.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather, stay visible, and let's work together to keep our community safe!
