New playground zone ahead sign on Butte Street South
Have you seen the new sign on Butte Street South? 👀
If you’re entering Pilot Butte on Butte Street South, you may have noticed the new sign just past the railroad tracks.
This initiative came from the Traffic Advisory Committee as a way to create greater awareness of the 30 km/h playground zone ahead—a recreation area that can be especially busy at times with families and children.
The large sign serves as a visual reminder to slow down, stay alert and watch for pedestrians and children as you approach the playground zone. 🚸
Thank you to our Public Works Department for ensuring the sign was installed in a prominent location where it can be easily seen by those entering town and maintaining the foliage to ensure it is visible.
The Traffic Advisory Committee meets regularly to discuss traffic and safety concerns in our community and provides recommendations to Council on opportunities and improvements that can be implemented to help make our roads and community safer for everyone.
Earlier this year, the Traffic Advisory Committee also made recommendations on the Town's applications for the SGI Traffic Safety Grant. With pedestrian and child safety identified as a focus, the intended projects include:
🔹 A pedestrian crosswalk at the 5th Street and Lafarge Street intersection, featuring a button-activated crossing sign and lights to improve visibility and awareness for pedestrians and drivers.
🔹 A concrete sidewalk on 2nd Avenue between 5th Street and 6th Street, providing a designated concrete pathway for children and pedestrians to use.
These initiatives are part of the Traffic Advisory Committee and Town’s continued efforts to identify opportunities to improve traffic safety and pedestrian accessibility throughout Pilot Butte.
