Snow and Ice Control
The Town of Pilot Butte has a Snow and Ice Control Policy 01-2025 that outlines the responsibilities and the process of snow removal and ice control. This policy includes a Priority Snow Removal Map in order to plan and prioritize snow removal throughout the town. Priorities are subject to change based on circumstances.
Priority 1: Main transportation routes & Emergency Services access
Priority 2: All other residential roads
Priority 3: Back alleys
A few items from the Snow and Ice Control Policy include:
- Property owners are responsible for the snow removal on their private property and on the sidewalk adjacent to their property.
- Private snow removal should be carried out in such a way as to not negatively impact other property owners or hinder the Town’s snow removal efforts.
- Snow and ice placed on municipal streets, sidewalks, pathways, or parking lots by individuals or companies is prohibited.
- Covering or blocking fire hydrants with snow is prohibited.
- The Public Works Department will ensure that windrows do not block access to private driveways. Due to space constraints a maximum 24-foot width section of a driveway will be cleared by Public Works. Ridges blocking driveway access will be removed once grading is completed in both Priority 1 and 2 areas.
- Sand/salt (70:30 sand to salt ratio) is applied to roads, Town sidewalks and pathways and Town parking lots as required to improve traction on icy or snow packed surfaces.

Tips from the Town:
- Please be cautious and courteous when driving near the grader/snow removal equipment. We ask that you refrain from passing the equipment to keep everyone on the road safe.
- Register for VoyentAlert! The Town uses the VoyentAlert notification system to keep residents informed on day-to-day notices, general information and critical information, including planned snow removal dates and earlier start times.
- If you see a fire hydrant that is covered in snow or inaccessible and are able to help remove the snow, we appreciate it! Clearing a path to and approximately 3ft around the fire hydrant allows space for the fire department to access it and work. Town crews check and clear fire hydrants, but if you see one that is inaccessible and aren't able to clear it, please let us know.
- A sand/salt mixture available for use on your property and adjacent sidewalk at the Maintenance Shop on Railway Avenue. Please bring a container to obtain the sand/salt
